Zsuzsanna Kiss

Zuszsanna Kiss was born on 17th June in Oroshaza, a small town in south-east Hungary. She attended the music school in Szentendre, her home town and important culture centre, from 1986 until 1994. There she learned to play the recorder and so to sing, taking part with the great success in various folk music competitions. At the age of nine she made her first recording with the children’s choir and started to play the violin. She became lead violinist of the school’s string orchestra and travelled as concert master of the chamber orchestra to London, where she also performed as a soloist.

From 1994 until 1999 she continued her study of the violin at the Bela Bartok high school in Budapest. This is the largest and most well renowned music school in Hungary. She still sang and took part in competitions. She travelled to France with the high school’s symphony orchestra. The orchestra regularly won first price in national competitions and a recording of Schubert’s Mass in C Major was made in 1998.

During her last year there she returned to the music school in her home town to teach violin, solfeggio and history of music. She was also in charge of the children’s string orchestra. From 1999 until 2005 Zsuzsanna studied for her concert violinist’s diploma at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. She was taught by the professors Paul Roczek, Brigitte Schmid, Martin Mumelter and Ivan Straus. Parallel to this she continued to train her voice with Kim Liou Chow.

She plays with various orchestras in Salzburg: Junge Philharmonie Salzburg, Sinfonietta de Camera Salzburg, Salzburger Dommusik (soloist, violin and vocal), Hochschulorchester des Mozarteums (concert Master 2004), University Orchestra Salzburg (concert master and soloist).

She had great success as a soloist performing Mozart’s Concerto in G Major KV 216 with the university orchestra in summer 2005.She has also performed regularly since 1995 with the Szentendre Chamber Orchestra as lead violinist, orchestra leader and soloist. Zsuzsanna played with the Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra in Italy in 2004, a Mahler project, and the same year saw her performing with the “Sound of Music” orchestra in China.
